Central midfielder Harry Winks came through our Academy system to establish himself at the top level.

Harry featured in 30 of our 53 matches in all competitions in 2021/22, taking him past the 200-appearance milestone for the Club in all competitions since making his debut against FK Partizan in the Europa League in November, 2014. He's now up to 203 appearances, scoring five goals.

In August, 2022, Harry joined Sampdoria on loan for the 2022/23 campaign.

Born in Hemel Hempstead, Harry joined the Academy in July, 2012, and went on to make 13 appearances for our Under-18s in 2012/13, also playing in two FA Youth Cup ties and four NextGen matches.

The 2013/14 season saw Harry named on the first team bench in high-profile matches at Liverpool, Benfica and West Bromwich Albion, having also played five times for our Under-21s, scoring once. In addition, he netted four goals in 14 appearances in the Under-18 Premier League and played in both FA Youth Cup ties during that campaign.

In 2014/15, he made 18 appearances in the Under-21 Premier League, scoring twice, and made his first team debut when he went on as a substitute in a 1-0 Europa League group stage win over Partizan Belgrade in November, 2014. He subsequently played in both of our post-season tour friendlies in Malaysia and Australia during the summer of 2015, starting the first game in Kuala Lumpur, having been on the bench for our final Premier League game of that season at Everton.

During 2015/16, he made substitute appearances in the Europa League against Qarabag and Fiorentina in addition to featuring 11 times for the Under-21s including two starts in the Premier League Under-21 International Cup.

After an impressive pre-season campaign in the summer of 2016, he made his Premier League debut as a late substitute against Liverpool on August 27, 2016, and earned his first senior start in the 5-0 home win over Gillingham in the EFL Cup the following month. In November, 2016, he scored on his first Premier League start in a dramatic 3-2 home win over London rivals West Ham United. Indeed, 2016/17 turned out to be a real breakthrough year for the talented midfielder. He shone whenever he took to the pitch and quickly took top-flight football in his stride, making 33 appearances in all competitions before his season came to a cruel end with an ankle injury sustained on his third Premier League start away at Burnley on April 1, 2017.

Ankle problems also affected him in 2017/18 but he still produced memorable displays against Real Madrid at home and away in the UEFA Champions League during the first half of that campaign, two of 25 appearances in all competitions.

The 2018/19 season saw him feature 41 times in all competitions, striking up a fine midfield partnership with a resurgent Moussa Sissoko. A stand-out moment came in January, 2019, when he bagged a sensational last-gasp winner at Fulham - his second goal for the club. A groin problem saw him miss the closing weeks of the Premier League season but he returned in time to start alongside Moussa in the Champions League Final against Liverpool in Madrid in June, 2019.

Winksy played 41 times again in 2019/20, including 26 starts in the Premier League and another five in the Champions League, taking him up to 26 appearances in Europe's top competition. At the age of 24, he also captained the team for the first time, wearing the armband against Wolves in the Premier League in March, 2020.

In 2020/21, he featured 28 times in all competitions, scoring twice - a spectacular effort against Ludogorets in the Europa League, and in our win at Wycombe in the FA Cup. He also reached 100 appearances for us in the Premier League.

After almost a year out of the England picture, he played four times for the Three Lions in October and November, 2020, taking his tally to 10 senior caps.

Harry has been capped by England at Under-17, Under-18, Under-19, Under-20, Under-21 and senior levels, making his full debut with an assured display in a 1-0 away victory against Lithuania in qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in October, 2017.
