After tasting UEFA Europa League success on that glory night in May, Kevin Danso is hungry for more silverware as we embark on our Carabao Cup campaign against Doncaster Rovers on Wednesday evening (kick-off 7.45pm UK).
Joining us on loan from French side RC Lens in January, Kevin – who turned 27 last week – was handed his Spurs debut in this competition last term, starting our semi-final second leg at Liverpool when we hoped to hold onto our one-goal advantage but ultimately exited following a 4-0 defeat at Anfield.
However, only a few months later, our number four came on as a substitute with 12 minutes remaining in Bilbao to help shore up our backline and snuff out Manchester United’s attempts to draw level as we won our first trophy in 17 years.
Heading into a new season in north London, the Austria international committed his future to the Club as his loan move became permanent in the summer and is determined to recreate last season's success as the road to Wembley begins against the League One side in round three at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
"We're a top club and we want to cement that by winning more trophies," said the centre-back, speaking exclusively for the official matchday programme. "This is another opportunity and we want to take it. As I said, once you win that first one, you just want more and to experience that feeling again.
"To do that, we have to take every game seriously and that includes tonight. There is no pressure on Doncaster. Sometimes these are the hardest games because they are seen to the outside world as an easy win for the higher team, but the lower league sides come out and play with freedom, they have nothing to lose and that makes them dangerous.
"But we know if we focus on ourselves, treat the game like any other, then there’s an opportunity to win the tie and move on in this competition."
