Clare Hunt’s Australia claimed a 2-1 victory in Wales in an international friendly on Saturday afternoon.

Named in the starting XI to earn her 37th cap for her nation, Clare started in the backline for the Matildas and completed 90 minutes at the Cardiff City Stadium to help them earn victory in the first-ever meeting between the two sides.

Courtney Nevin’s first goal at international level was cancelled out by Mared Griffiths 10 minutes into the second period. However, five minutes from time, Caitlin Foord was on target to restore their advantage.

Defender Charlotte Grant was an unused substitute for the Matildas, who will face Jess Naz’s England on Tuesday (28 October) at Derby County’s Pride Park.

Lionesses, meanwhile, were also in action this evening as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Brazil at the Etihad Stadium. Our number seven remained on the bench for Sarina Weigman’s side.

Earlier in the day, Sophie Jackson’s England Under-19s made it two wins out of two in their UEFA Women’s U19 Euro qualifiers with a 4-0 victory over Greece. Our Academy goalkeeper was an unused susbstitute for the Young Lionesses.
