Danso: “We’ve integrated into our game that mentality to come back”

It was all about mentality for Kevin Danso in the wake of Tuesday night’s Champions League draw with Bodo/Glimt.

Back in the team for the second midweek match in a row, the defender was as frustrated as anyone as we struggled to get to grips with the game at Aspmyra Stadion and fell two goals behind by the mid-way point of the second half.

But after his centre-back partner Micky van de Ven pulled one back and we went on to secure a point thanks to Jostein Gundersen’s late own goal, the Austria international kept referring back to our strength of character as he assessed an eventful night in northern Norway.

“I thought they played really well, especially in the first half, but once again we showed a good mentality to come back,” he told SPURSPLAY.

“Obviously we wanted more from the game, we wanted to win, unfortunately we didn’t but as I said, we showed a great mentality to come back from 2-0 down.

Our mentality came out again. It’s the third time we’ve been down and come back.

“In the first half it was tough. They’re at home, on their surface, they’re used to it and they’re a good side – we knew that from last season. It was just about figuring it out a bit earlier.

“They’re used to it – they play here more often – but we’re professionals and wherever we play, wherever we go, we try to bring our A-game. Today, it wasn’t quite there, but our mentality came out again. It’s the third time we’ve been down and come back.

“We want to keep a clean sheet. As a defender, that’s one of the most important things, but if you do go a goal down, the really important thing – and something we’ve integrated into our game – is that mentality to come back, whatever the situation, to stay in the game and give ourselves every opportunity to come back or win.”
