Micky van de Ven made UEFA Champions League history with his outrageous goal against FC Copenhagen on Tuesday night.
A swashbuckling run from his own box to our visitors' area, the defender carried the ball 67.7m before firing into the back of the net which broke the record for the longest ball carry ending in a goal in the history of the competition.
Beating the previous best efforts of Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior who ran 64.4m with the ball before scoring in the Spanish giants 4-2 win over Borussia Dortmund in October, 2024, Micky now takes the crown for the record in the Champions League.
Interestingly, despite breaking the Champions League record for the longest goal-ending carry, Micky has not overtaken Sonny's near-identical effort against Burnley in 2019. Our legendary forward carried the ball 72.3m on that date before stroking the ball home past Nick Pope.
