Fans tournament at Hotspur Way supports local food projects

Fri 02 May 2025, 16:45|Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs supporters and local community groups competed in a six-a-side tournament hosted by Tottenham Hotspur Foundation at our Training Centre this afternoon, as part of the Premier League Fans Fund.

All entry fees are going to Haringey Community Food Network (HCFN), as are any physical donations of food participants are able to make.

This continues the long-term backing of the Club, Foundation and fans for the 50-plus food banks, community kitchens and other food projects supported by HCFN.

Today’s teams included representatives from Proud Lilywhites, Spurs REACH and Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust, who were cheered on and encouraged from the sidelines by Club legend Gary Mabbutt.

He said: "Spurs have played a leading role in bringing together fans and the local community for many years, especially through the work of the Foundation. Initiatives like this make an invaluable difference for those in need of a helping hand and we’re proud to help deliver them."

Data from 2023 showed a third of Haringey residents experienced food insecurity and were unable to consistently provide their household with healthy food.

Main causes of early death in Haringey are cancer (37 per cent) and cardiovascular disease (24 per cent), and food poverty is among factors that can be linked to these.

Darren Phillips, Foundation youth and community manager, said: "Working in the local community every day, we hear and see about all the challenges residents face, like food poverty. It’s vital we continue playing our part to make a difference and always brilliant to work in partnership with fans."

The Premier League Fans Fund provides grants to support football clubs in strengthening connections between their fans and local communities.
