Williams-Barnett wins Premier League award

Young forward Luca Williams-Barnett has picked up the Premier League’s Under-18 Goal of the Season award for his stunning effort from the half-way line against Leicester City back in November.

The 16-year-old, who has starred regularly for our Under-18s this season despite still being a schoolboy, was on target in considerable style in our 3-1 home victory over the Foxes, collecting Harry Byrne’s defensive header mid-way inside our half, skipping past a challenge, roaming forward and launching a pinpoint shot over the retreating goalkeeper and into the net.

Remarkably it was one of three long-range goals he scored in 2024/25, having netted from the half-way line against West Ham United a couple of weeks prior with a further lob from the right wing coming against Aston Villa in April.

However, it was his goal against Leicester that earned the accolade, as announced at the Premier League’s recent Youth Development Conference at Wembley Stadium.

“I’m very happy to win this award,” smiled Luca, who was named on the bench for the first team on four occasions this term and also scored a hat-trick as Stuart Lewis’ side won the Under-17 Premier League Cup final against Charlton Athletic in April. “I was especially happy with that goal against Leicester and I want to thank my coaches and team-mates, as well as my family, for helping me throughout this season.”

Defensive midfielder Harry, a regular at left-back this term, was named our Scholar of the Year at the same event.
