Internationals | Grant and Hunt start as Australia held by Slovenia

Charlotte Grant and Clare Hunt both started for Australia as a late goal from Slovenia saw the friendly end in a 1-1 in Perth on Sunday.

Facing Slovenia for a second time in four days – having beaten them 3-0 on Thursday with Hayley Raso on target – Michelle Heyman broke the deadlock for the Matildas five minutes into the second half but, one minute into stoppage time, Mirjam Kastelec grabbed a late equaliser for the visitors.

‘Charli’, who registered an assist last time out against Slovenia, and Clare were named in the starting XI and both completed 90 minutes, while Hayley was introduced just after the hour mark.

Having completed one of two double headers in this international window, Joe Montemurro’s side will now face Panama over two games, first up on Saturday 5 July (7.30am UK) and then Tuesday 8 July (11am UK).

The current international window is preparation for next month’s AFFC Women’s Championship, where Australia will compete in the tournament for just the second time.
