Young people in Tottenham are set to benefit from a brand new Mobile Youth Hub thanks to a partnership between Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and Haringey Council.
The initiative builds on years of the Foundation supporting young people through programmes in the local community and schools, and the success of a council hub in nearby Wood Green.
The new hub in Tottenham will be available to local young people twice a week, providing greater access to essential support and activities, and empowering them to seize new opportunities and shape their futures.
Through collaboration with key partners, a diverse range of services and activities will be on offer at the hub, from music and DJing sessions to IT training, personal development workshops to mentoring, opportunities for individuals to reflect on their past traumas and understand their impact, as well as vital support and advice on substance misuse.
Marc Leckie, Foundation chief executive, said: "Much of our work is geared towards building safer, stronger communities and, by bringing a new Mobile Youth Hub to Tottenham, we’re making a clear commitment to further combat serious youth violence.
“This builds on years of support for vulnerable young people, including over 700 who have benefited from our delivery of Premier League Inspires in secondary schools.
“We’re proud to partner with Haringey Council on these vital new services that place young people at the heart of our efforts to inspire, empower and transform lives.”
Premier League Inspires is a personal development programme funded by the Premier League and Professional Footballers’ Association through the Premier League Charitable Fund. It uses the power of football to inspire young people to develop their personal skills and positive attitudes needed to succeed in life.
The Foundation has delivered the programme to more than 30 local schools, with staff delivering some 5,000 hours of targeted support.
It also delivers the Tottenham Futures life skills and development programme and My Ends football and outreach sessions, both serving similar aims, with funding provided by the Mayor of London’s Violence Reduction Unit.
Partnering with the council to provide the new Mobile Youth Hub – to run in the area of Seven Sisters every Monday and Wednesday between 3pm and 6pm – will bring an even greater level of coordination in supporting local young people.
Cllr Zena Brabazon, cabinet member for children, schools & families, said: “The expansion of the Mobile Youth Hub to Tottenham marks a significant step in providing young people with easier access to vital support, activities and opportunities that will benefit them significantly in the future.
“By working with key partners, we’re ensuring young people can develop new skills, build their confidence, and strengthen their networks by building trust and fostering a sense of belonging.”
