Women’s team kick off programme of Club community support this Christmas

Wed 03 December 2025, 19:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Bethany England, Eleanor Heeps, Ella Morris, Ashleigh Neville and Josefine Rybrink brought some early festive cheer to a local care home today, kicking off a programme of Club community support this Christmas.

The group visited Lorenco House, just a short walk from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, taking part in seated exercises and interactive games provided for residents by our Foundation, as well as giving out mince pies donated by the Club to enjoy over a cup of tea.

Research shows as many as one in four older people experience loneliness at Christmas and that almost half of care home residents do not receive regular visitors.

Bethany said: “We’re very fortunate that we can give back to people who aren’t necessarily in the same position, especially at this time of year, a time of giving and being around loved ones and family.

“To be here and part of their journeys, if we can bring a little bit of love and joy to their lives then that’s what we’ll do.”

Ashleigh added: “I really enjoyed meeting the residents and spreading a bit of joy before Christmas. This is the first time I’ve been into a care home, so to be able to get involved in the session today was really special."

Walton McLaren, 79, entertained the players and fellow residents by playing guitar. He said it was the best day he had had at Lorenco House since moving in three years ago.

“It was a wonderful day. When I heard the players were coming down, I thought ‘Wow’. It was enjoyable to spend time with them and the Foundation activities helped energise me to play for them. I’ll take some of the exercises back to my room and practice them.”

The session was part of our Foundation’s Active Memories programme, supported by the Premier League and Professional Footballers’ Association Players’ Fund, and People’s Postcode Lottery.

It highlighted the importance of the Foundation’s work and coincided with a week in which any donation made to the Foundation via this link will be DOUBLED.

The Club sits within one of London’s most deprived areas and has long recognised its responsibility to support vulnerable people in its communities during the Christmas period.

In addition to today’s visit, the coming weeks will see players across both our women’s and men’s teams visit local homeless support services, deliver toys to children in local hospitals and make a delivery of Club-donated items to foodbanks.

The Club has also made a donation of Christmas trees to Haringey Council to be displayed within the local area.

Our Foundation works year-round to not only support the health and wellbeing of local residents, but also provide education and engagement opportunities for young people, as well as pathways into employment. In 2024/25, over 13,000 north Londoners benefited from more than 10,500 hours of targeted support.
