Colossal Cuti your Player of the Match against Newcastle

Wed 03 December 2025, 21:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Cristian Romero has claimed your HSBC Player of the Match after his outstanding captain's contribution to secure a battling 2-2 draw at Newcastle United in the Premier League on Tuesday night.

Cuti, back from serving a one-match suspension, led by example and delivered when it mattered most with his two late goals - a first-ever career brace - seeing us twice recover from going a goal behind to bring a point back to north London.

Making the long trip to St James' Park, a difficult away ground for us in recent seasons, we fell behind to Bruno Guimaraes' strike on 71 minutes but hit back seven minutes later when the centre-back stooped low to bravely put his head on Mo Kudus' cross and send his diving header past Aaron Ramsdale.

When the home side were awarded a penalty following a VAR review - after Rodrigo Bentancur was adjudged to have brought down Dan Burn at a corner - and Anthony Gordon put the Magpies 2-1 up with four minutes of normal time remaining it looked as though we'd leave the north east empty handed.

With time running out, as the clock ticked deep into the nine minutes of stoppage time, we needed a moment of inspiration and our skipper duly delivered with an audacious overhead kick to restore parity in the 95th minute. As Ramsdale punched Mathys Tel's corner high into the night sky, the Argentine - who found himself on the floor - sprung up into action and sent in an acrobatic attempt that nestled into the bottom corner.

You could see what it meant to our leader when he passionately grabbed the Spurs badge and looked up to acknowledge the travelling Spurs supporters high up in the away end as he celebrated with his team-mates.

Alongside his first Premier League goals of the campaign at one end, the Argentina international also contributed at the back with six duels won, five clearances, five possession wins and three tackles to cap a superb all-round display.
