Spurs 0-1 Bournemouth | Thomas Frank’s verdict

Sat 30 August 2025, 18:40|Tottenham Hotspur

Thomas Frank gave an honest assessment of our performance after a 1-0 loss against Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday.

The visitors impressed, particularly in the first half, where they scored what turned out to be the only goal of the game - Evanilson’s shot deflected of Cuti Romero sliding in and looped over Guglielmo Vicario on five minutes - and ran up 10 efforts at goal to our zero, a rarity in N17.

Vicario kept us in it with saves to deny Evanilson and David Brooks, twice, in the second half before we started to push the Cherries back in the latter stages. That’s when we created our best chances - Lucas Bergvall fired straight at Dorde Petrovic, Destiny Udogie looped a header wide and Mathys Tel volleyed just wide.

“It was a tough one,” said Thomas, speaking on our Review Show. “We played against a good Bournemouth team that played to their strengths, played exactly what we expected from them, but we didn’t handle it well enough, clearly.

“They are very good playing in behind, which we know, very good to land on second balls, which we know, very good early crosses, small passes, early, and that surprised, me with how good we’ve been, defensively, we struggled a little with that.

“Also, it’s a type of football you don’t see that often. No excuses - we should do better.

"Offensively, also... so, overall, not a top performance, and we struggled to create chances. What I saw from the players is that they gave everything, they gave their hearts, but on the day, we just didn’t hit the right performance.”
