“To win it again, there’s no better feeling!” – Stuart Lewis savours latest cup triumph

Sat 12 April 2025, 09:50|Tottenham Hotspur

Stuart Lewis couldn’t hide his emotions after guiding our youth team to Under-17 Premier League Cup glory for a second time on Friday night.

A hat-trick from Luca Williams-Barnett was added to by goals from Harry Byrne and Reiss Elliott-Parris as we saw off a spirited Charlton Athletic side at Stevenage to reclaim the trophy we first won in 2022/23 as part of our memorable Under-17 and Under-18 Premier League Cup double.

For coach Stuart, who has seen many players he’s worked with go on to make an impact on the senior stage over the last couple of seasons, it was a night to cherish.

“I’m over the moon! I’m so pleased for the players as a group and that winning feeling, you just can’t recreate,” he told SPURSPLAY.

Under-17 cup winners again!

All the action from a fantastic final victory on Friday night.

“I’m just so pleased for the staff, for the players, for the Academy as a whole and also the Club. It’s brilliant to win this trophy again – it was a great performance with some outstanding goals and a really exciting evening on show. There’s obviously still room for improvement as we know because these are young people and young players, but there were some outstanding moments and the goals that we scored, we’ve done that throughout the season in this competition and also within the Under-18s.

“To win it again, there’s no better feeling! I’m so emotional right now – I’m a Tottenham person as everyone knows and this means a lot to me.”

Williams-Barnett, 16, continued a superb season which has also seen him bag two hat-tricks for the Under-18s in addition to making a handful of appearances on the bench for the first team, all while still a schoolboy.

“He loves football,” added Stuart. “He’s such an exciting, creative player and I spoke during the week with the media about Tottenham players and having that creativity and go-for-it mindset and Luca has still got a lot of work to do, he’s obviously an Under-16 player but throughout the season there’s been some unbelievable moments from him.”

The season isn’t over yet for this group of players – we’re one of six teams in mathematical contention for the Under-18 Premier League southern division title, with a number of games in hand on the sides above us. We host another of those, Aston Villa, next Saturday at Hotspur Way (12pm UK), live on SPURSPLAY.
