Bissouma's AFCON journey ends with late, late drama against Ivory Coast

Yves Bissouma and Mali exited the Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday night as they fell 2-1 to Ivory Coast in their quarter-final tie in Bouaké.

Having initially led in the game, Bissouma's nation were pegged back in the final minute of normal time to send the game to extra-time before Ivory Coast popped up with a 120th-minute winner to make it to the semis.

Mali had reached the quarter-finals with victory over Burkina Faso in the round of 16, and were put in the ideal position to make the semi-finals after Ivory Coast's Odilon Kossounou was dismissed.

Despite having missed a penalty on 17 minutes, Mali did finally make use of their numerical advantage when Nene Dorgeles struck to separate the two sides. However, that was not to be enough for Les Aigles as with seconds remaining of the game, Simon Adingra skipped in for Les Elephants to level and send the game to an additional 30 minutes of action.

And it would be the Ivorians who go on and use their momentum in front of their home crowd as Oumar Diakite guided home from six yards out in the final minute of extra-time to break Mali hearts.

Yves started the game amongst Mali's substitutes before coming on for the start of extra-time. That was the midfielder's 38th appearance for his country.
