Team news | Spurs vs Wolves | Ben suffers setback

Fri 27 December 2024, 12:10|Tottenham Hotspur

Ange Postecoglou reports that Ben Davies is set for an extended stay on the sidelines after suffering a setback in his recovery from injury in training.

The Wales international was targeting a return by the turn of the year after initially damaging his hamstring in our Premier League match at Bournemouth on 5 December.

Ange was asked on Friday for the latest on fellow defender Radu Dragusin's injury picked up in our Boxing Day clash at Forest. On being told that it was too early to tell if Radu would be fit to face Wolves at home on Sunday (3pm UK), Ange was then asked if was therefore a necessity to get Ben back into action.

"No, he's ruled out," said Ange. "Unfortunately, he had a setback in training, so he's probably out for another couple of weeks."

Asked later in the conference if it was the same injury for Ben, Ange added: "It's a similar injury, he tried to come back in training, but it didn't work out."

That means Ange is without Ben, Cuti Romero, Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence - sent off at Forest for two bookable offences - and potentially Radu for Sunday's visit of Wolves.

Asked about his defensive options, Ange added: "Not many... look, we're in a tough spot, we have been for a while. We've been getting through it for quite a while now and keeping our fingers crossed we don't get any more issues, but that's the nature of football, and with the fixture schedule we've had, we've always been on a fine line to get through. This is another test for us, but it is what it is and whatever we have to deal with, we'll deal with it and get ready for Sunday."

Guglielmo Vicario, Mikey Moore, Richarlison and Wilson Odobert also remain sidelined.
