Brennan: “We’re giving our all, Wolves’ late goal was a massive blow”

Disappointment was written all over Brennan Johnson’s face after Wolves grabbed a late equaliser to take a share of the Premier League spoils in Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It looked like Brennan’s clinical finish from Dejan Kulusevski’s assist on the stroke of half-time was going to be enough for maximum points in N17. We’d created chances to extend our lead and Wolves, although in the game, hadn’t really tested Fraser Forster. However, as we ticked into the 88th minute, substitute Jorgen Strand Larsen fired home from an acute angle to level it up. We had one further chance deep into eight minutes of added time as Pape Matar Sarr nodded inches wide, but it wasn't to be.

It was frustration all round after we’d fought back from Hee-Chan Hwang’s early strike to lead at half-time via Rodrigo Bentancur’s header and Brennan’s 11th goal in all competitions so far this term.

Speaking on our Review Show afterwards, Brennan told us: “It was a tough game, Wolves came here on the back of a really good result against Man United, but I think we showed enough to get through the game and definitely created enough chances to win, so it’s disappointing.

“To get ourselves back in front in the way we did, and we had the chances to get another... in those games we have to really grit our teeth and get a result. It's sickening when that goal goes in because everyone's worked so hard and we haven't been at our best, but we've really worked hard to get a result and for them to score right at the end, it’s a massive blow.”

Asked about the belief in the group, as it’s clear the players are giving everything, Brennan added: “I'm not going to lie and say that we're all buzzing, it's been tough. The minimum we can do is give our all. That's what we are doing, to be fair, I don't think I can doubt anyone’s belief and work rate. It’s just so disappointing when results like this happen late on.”
