Ange on Bryan Gil: “He could be really important for us”

Fri 20 October 2023, 14:15|Tottenham Hotspur

Ange Postecoglou feels Bryan Gil is ready to play his part after returning to full fitness.

Laid low by a groin issue that required surgery in August, Bryan was back on the bench for the first time this season last time out against Luton on 7 October.

Ange explained that Bryan reaped the benefits of training throughout the international break and, with Ivan Perisic (knee), Manor Solomon (knee) out longer-term, and with Brennan Johnson also on his way back from injury, opportunity could knock for the Spain international who featured 11 times last season before heading off on loan to Sevilla in the second half of the campaign.

He certainly has all the criteria to play in that position for is and his training is getting stronger now, he’s part of the group and I’m sure he’ll get an opportunity

Ange on Bryan Gil

Speaking at his press conference ahead of Monday’s return to Premier League action against Fulham at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (8pm), Ange said: “Bryan is one where in the last couple of weeks, it’s been great to have him working really hard in training, he’s missed all of the season so far, and it’s well chronicled that we’ve lost Ivan (Perisic) and lost Manor (Solomon), who play in that left wing position, so having Bryan available again ins great for us.

“He’s in the same place as everyone else, at some point he’ll get an opportunity and then it’s up to him. He certainly has all the criteria to play in that position for is and his training is getting stronger now, he’s part of the group and I’m sure he’ll get an opportunity. We’ve a Monday night game and then a Friday night game, so we’ll need the squad to deal with those two games over the next five days.”
