Yves Bissouma: “I’ve worked hard to come back stronger”

Yves Bissouma was back for his first action in three months but couldn’t shift the feeling of disappointment after our 2-1 loss at Villa on Saturday.
Out with an ankle injury since 5 February, the Mali midfielder stepped off the bench on 62 minutes as we started to get back into the game at Villa Park. We were trailing 1-0 at the time, but the home side soon doubled their lead via Douglas Luiz’s free-kick. Harry Kane pulled a goal back from the penalty spot, but it wasn’t to be.
The result saw Villa move level with us in the Premier League standings but we’re now seventh and eighth respectively after Brighton’s win at Arsenal saw them climb to sixth.
Speaking to SPURSPLAY afterwards, Yves told us: “To be honest, I’m not satisfied because we wanted to win this game. It was important for us. We lost the game in some details, like the start, after seven minutes they scored the first goal. The second half was better, and we will try to continue like that.”
We now face Brentford in our last home game of 2022/23 on Saturday (12.30pm) before a trip to Elland Road and Leeds on the final day of the season on Sunday week, 28 May (4.30pm).
Yves, who missed 16 matches in all competitions, added: “I’m really happy to be back, but sad because we didn’t win the game, and the result means everything.
“The last three months were not easy for me, but I worked really hard every day to come back stronger. I feel good physically and I will try to help the team how I can for the last two games. I’m ready to play and, if the coach needs me, I’m here to help my team-mates.”
