Leeds reaction | Ryan and Harry’s tribute to Lucas

Mon 29 May 2023, 09:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Ryan Mason and Harry Kane paid tribute to Lucas Moura’s professionalism as he ended his Spurs career with another magic moment in our 4-1 win at Leeds United on Sunday.

Now leaving us after five-and-a-half years at the Club, Lucas waved goodbye in style with a moment to add to a list that includes the late equaliser at Barcelona to take us into the Champions League knockout stage in 2018/19, the first hat-trick at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and, of course, the hat-trick and dramatic late winner at Ajax to take us into the Champions League Final.

Brought off the bench as we ticked into five minutes of added time at Elland Road, the clock showed 90+4 when Lucas picked the ball up on the right touchline, beat Liam Cooper, drove to the box and dribbled between three defenders before finishing. Jubilant scenes as the full matchday squad joined the celebrations in front of our fans said it all.

It’s amazing for him... what a lovely goal to end his Spurs career

Harry Kane on Lucas

BBC Match Of The Day commentator Guy Mowbray summed up perfectly as he said, ‘that’s one of the best final moments for a player in a career at a club you’ll ever see’ as Lucas had the final word after Harry Kane (2) and Pedro Porro’s goals put us in charge on an intense afternoon in Yorkshire.

“Lucas deserved that,” Acting Head Coach Ryan told SPURSPLAY. “He’s a top person, a top professional. He came here today to help us and I’m very pleased he had that special moment at the end.”

“It’s amazing for him,” added Harry. “He’s stayed so professional in this moment, it’s never easy but he’s stayed professional, worked hard and always been ready for any opportunity. That showed today, and what a lovely goal to end his Spurs career.”
