Harry Kane continued his goalscoring momentum for England to help the Three Lions register a 2-0 win over Ukraine in Euro 2024 qualifying at Wembley on Sunday.
Fresh from becoming his country’s all-time leading goalscorer in the victory over Italy last week, our homegrown striker added another to his tally when he fired Gareth Southgate’s side ahead in the first half at the national stadium.
Collecting the ball in midfield, Harry fizzed it out to Bukayo Saka on the right flank and then moved into the box to convert the Arsenal attacker’s cross at the back post in the 37th minute. Saka quickly made it two with a sublime strike from distance and that’s how it stayed, captain Harry making way for England debutant Ivan Toney in the 81st minute while Eric Dier and Fraser Forster remained unused substitutes.
The result leaves England top of Group C with maximum points from their two games so far.
Earlier in the day, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg played 90 minutes for Denmark as they were stunned 3-2 away to Kazakhstan in Group H, the hosts recovering from 2-0 down with 17 minutes remaining to claim a remarkable victory. Denmark are second on three points from a possible six.
Elsewhere on Sunday, young defender Will Andiyapan, who recently signed his first professional contract with us, was introduced as a 55th-minute substitute for Wales Under-19s as they battled out a 2-2 friendly draw at home to Scotland.
His youth team colleague Elliot Krasniqi, meanwhile, played 90 minutes in goal for Albania Under-19s in their 2-1 defeat away to Malta.
