Sonny reflects on 2022/23

Heung-Min Son has reflected on the 2022/23 campaign on his official instagram channel.

After returning home to South Korea following our final day victory at Leeds United, Sonny has given his reflections on a rollercoaster of a season for him as well as his thanks to fans for their enduring support.

Having become the first Asian player to win the Premier League's Golden Boot after scoring 23 goals in the 2021/22 campaign, our electric forward found it difficult to replicate such form in the year just gone.

Struggling to fire in front of goal as he registered just three times in the league before Christmas - all three coming against Leicester City in October as he produced a scintillating 13-minute hat-trick  - the Korea Republic international then suffered a facial injury in our final Champions League group stage clash as we defeated Marseille in November.

Out of our remaining games until Boxing Day, Sonny was able to return to action at the Qatar World Cup where, wearing a protective mask, he captained his nation to the round of 16 - his best run at the tournament in his career.

Back in our colours as we took on Brentford on 26 December, Sonny then began to find his form as we moved into 2023 and ultimately enjoyed a very strong end to the campaign, recording 13 goal involvements in all competitions before the season was out - that included goal number 100 in the Premier League as well as his 50th assist in the competition.

"Just returned to Korea after finishing the season," Sonny wrote. "Took time to come back and reflect on last season. It's a shame that I wasn't good enough, as a team, as well as the season I thought and expected.

"But I would like to say thank you to all the fans who have sent me so much support in this difficult season. Thank you very much to each and every one of the fans who have been supporting me day and night in Korea, who came to the stadium directly and online to support me this season. I promise you that I will recharge well as I was lacking and come back next season with a better and stronger look."
