Internationals | Zhang faces USA, big win for Buhler, Shelina's Canada hit five against Matildas

Tue 05 December 2023, 11:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Zhang Linyan started for China in a 3-0 friendly loss against the USA on Friday - and is set to meet the four-time world champions again in the early hours of Wednesday.

Starting on the left, chances were few and far between in attacking areas for Zhang and her side as the USA dominated at the DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Currently on loan from Chinese Women's Super League club Wuhan Jianghan University, Zhang completed the 90 minutes. The teams meet again at the Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas at 8pm local time (2am UK).

Saying with friendly action, Shelina Zadorsky came off the bench on 69 minutes as Canada put together an impressive 5-0 win against World Cup semi-finalists Australia in British Columbia on Saturday.

Asmita Ale and Jessica Naz have been part of the England Under-23s squad that beat France 1-0 on Thursday and then drew 1-1 against Spain on Monday. Jess featured in both games - off the bench against France, starting and completing 74 minutes against Spain - while Asmita was an unused substitute in both matches.

There have been mixed fortunes for our players in the UEFA Women's Nation League.- Luana Buhler started as Switzerland ended a run of losses by beating Sweden 1-0, while Martha Thomas started and played for 58 minutes as Scotland picked up a 1-1 draw against Belgium. Angharad James completed the 90 as Wales suffered a 2-1 loss against Iceland in Cardiff. Meanwhile, Grace Clinton and Barbora Votikova were unused substitutes for England (3-2 win vs Netherlands) and Czech Republic (1-0 win vs Belarus) respectively.
