"We’ve got seven games left and it is all to play for" - Danjuma

Tue 18 April 2023, 15:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Arnaut Danjuma believes our focus, confidence and conviction will be crucial if we are going to secure Champions League qualification once more.

After the bruising late, late 3-2 defeat to AFC Bournemouth on Sunday, the disappointment amongst the squad was clear as we lost the chance to close the gap to fourth place.

However, as is football, with Newcastle United up next for us in the Premier League, the door to that opportunity is set to reopen once again - and so we'll be determined to make our mark upon it as we head to St James' Park on Sunday (kick-off 2pm UK).

And it is that opportunistic outlook that is prevalent in the squad - the Cherries reverse might have left a sour taste but we have to look forward. With seven games remaining, all is still to play for and, with a win on Tyneside, we can move level on points with fourth-placed United.

We’re obviously devastated with the result of the game but, nevertheless, I’m standing here, very confident in my team-mates, in the fans and in the staff.

Arnaut Danjuma on Bournemouth defeat

"It was a (gut punch) to be brutally honest with you," Arnaut said as he discussed the loss to Bournemouth. "Obviously, it would have been a dream to win the game again as we did away, but this is football, it is not always meant to be, and I think, in the hard times, it is even more important to stick together, it is even more important to get the support.

"We’re obviously devastated with the result of the game but, nevertheless, I’m standing here, very confident in my team-mates, in the fans and in the staff. I think we’ve got seven games left and it is all to play for so, as long as we focus on the next game, get our conviction back, get our confidence back, there’s nothing to worry about.

"Newcastle have dropped some points (lost 2-0 away to Aston Villa on Saturday). Obviously, we’ve dropped some points against Bournemouth. We had a big chance, but it wasn’t meant to be. We’ve got a good training week ahead of us, we need to make sure we switch each other on, make sure we find our togetherness and make sure we bring those three points back home from up north."
